Overview
Bijinga—a distinctive nihonga genre!
Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting) themes include landscapes, flora and fauna, and bijinga, depictions of beautiful women. This exhibition celebrates Uemura Shōen, the foremost bijinga artist.
So many bijinga!
Bijinga painted by other painters, including the famous female artists Ogura Yuki and Kataoka Tamako, are also on display.
The full bijinga lineup consists of 62 paintings.
The one-and-only bijinga exhibition in Tokyo!
The Yamatane Museum has the largest collection of Uemura Shōen’s works in Tokyo. This year, 2025, is the 150th anniversary of her birth, and, during this special year, our museum is presenting the only exhibition of her work in Tokyo. Don’t miss it!
